Lyrics Translation: “希望、一縷。” by m:a.ture

¡Hola chicos! ¿Cómo están?

Hey guys, how’s it going? It’s japotina: a Japanese chica living in Perú.

My first blog entirely in English hehe Since un amigo asked me to translate the lyrics of this great song by m:a.ture (a Japanese band)

To be honest, I didn’t know at all of this song nor the artist…

I don’t listen to J-Pop myself…😅 I only listen to global billboards, and even more of latin or salsa songs nowadays hehe But this song made me realize I should listen more of those in Japanese, since some lyrics have depth and are very touching. Above all, I CAN understand; which is a very fortunate thing considering the uniqueness of my mother tongue—Japanese. I guess to fully understand this kind of lyrics requires long years of studying Japanese because of the complexity of this three-characters-used language.

Anyway here it goes…

I think I did it pretty well, not destroying the pretty flow that the original Japanese lyrics beholds.

But there are days I’m lonely and can’t stand
夕映ゆうばえ 迫せまる 空そら の 朱あか に 心音しんおん は 少すこし 揺ゆれた
The scarlet of the sky with the evening sun, has moved the sound of my heart a bit
涙なみだ が 枯かれてしまう 前まえ に 凪なぎ の 水面みなも に 舟ふね を 出だして
Before the tears dry-out, I’ll row away from the calm water surface
空そら を 仰あおぐ 手て は 掴つかめるだろうか
Can I grab it? With this hand seeking the sky
微かすかな 希望きぼう 、 一縷いちる
A delicate thread of hope

ふわりと 髪かみ を 靡なびかせ 汐風しおかぜ が 過すぎてった
My hair swayed, *fuwari, a sea breeze passed by
何処どこかの 遠とおい 場所ばしょ へ 向むかっていくのだろう
It must be heading to somewhere very far away
翼つばさ が もし 有あったって 自由じゆう かどうかなんて
Even if I had wings, how should I know I’m free?
在あるべき 姿すがた がきっと 間違まちがっているのだろう
My ideal shape must be wrong

そんなことぼんやりとまた 考かんがえながら 空そら を 見上みあげ
Thinking vaguely, looking up the sky
不意ふい に 込こみ上あげる 想おもいを 堪こたえて 睨にらむ 水平線すいへいせん を
Holding the sudden burst of my emotions, I glare at the horizon

誰だれ とも 分わかり合あえない 日ひ もあれば
There are days I can’t understand anyone
分わかち合あって 笑わらい合あう 日ひもあって
But there are days I can laugh together by sharing with others
絡からみ合あう 人混ひとごみの 中なか で
In the crowd of entangled people
体温たいおん を 忘わすれてった
I start to forget your temperature
大切たいせつさが 薄うすれてしまう 前まえ に
Before the “preciousness” fade-away
君きみ の 声こえ が 聞ききたくて
Wanted to hear your voice
